Online job search tools are becoming more and more commonly used. There have been so many advancements in web technology; it's no surprise people are turning to job search sites to help in their time of need.

I especially feel for the young college grads who just spent the past four or five years in school and are now struggling to find a decent-paying job. I'm sure they didn't see this coming when they began their academic journey.

Also popular among these recent unemployed college grads is the use of social media. And I just feel many of them are not being careful enough when posting their information on job websites.

I actually have a friend who recently applied for a job through a job search site, and the employer surprisingly contacted her to let her know a) she did not get the job and b) she should take down her Facebook profile.

Too bad she had some incriminating photos and comments posted on her profile, and it wasn't private. The employer was very polite and advised that she take down her profile or at least set it to private.

Sometimes making a profile private doesn't safeguard you either. With Facebook, for instance, even if there is a slight chance the employer may know someone that you know, it could become a problem.

Sure this scenario is far-fetched, but it is still possible. In times like this, job seekers should be on their best behavior!

I ask that you please take this into consideration before you start posting your personal information on job websites or social media websites. You never know who is watching.
